General

A headphone amplifier, DAC and monitor controller in one, the SPL Phonitor 3 DAC is an essential sidekick in any mastering studio. Choose between two analogue stereo sources: AES3 and S/PDIF, and via the USB port, set up the Phonitor 3 to serve as a DAC. DA conversion is taken care of by an AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound DAC converter while the 32-bit/768kHz resolution and DSD256 can literally handle anything you can throw at it.

Enter the Matrix

Normally, the left and right channels are fully separated when listening with a set of headphones, which can make it difficult to gain a good balance. Via the crossfeed matrix, a little bit of the left channel is fed through the left ear of the headphones and vice versa, resulting in a stereo image that comes way closer to that of a good set of speakers. In fact, with the Phonitor 3 you can even adjust the width and angle of your virtual speakers to give the audio image of your headphones an even more spatial dimension.

Plus Expansion Rack

Using the included expansion rack, the Phonitor 3 DAC can be mounted in any standard 19 inch rack, but that's not all. This expansion rack kits the unit out with an extra four balanced stereo pairs so you can hook up four pairs of stereo monitors. On the front panel, you'll also find a big and tactile selection dial for scrolling through your monitor sets, effectively transforming the Phonitor 3 into a fully fledged monitor controller.
