DW Drums CP5500LB Low Boy Hi-Hat Stand with Carrying Bag

With the CP5500LB Low Boy, DW Drums reintroduce an important piece of drum history, as this extremely low hi-hat stand was inspired by the original low-boy stands from the 1920s. Naturally, this 21st century version features a handful of modern adjustments and improvements, including the smooth-operating GlideTrack Drive. The CP5500LB Low Boy comes complete with a nylon carry bag and is suitable for drummers and percussionists, especially the cajon-playing kind.

The Low Boy Hi-Hat Stand

At the time of its 'invention', the combination of two of the same cymbals didn't go by the name of 'hi-hat' just yet. Back then, no one even played cymbals with sticks yet! The first cymbal stands were relatively straightforward and only 10cm high, say roughly ankle-height. As such, double cymbals were commonly referred to as 'low sock' or 'low boy' cymbals and, thanks to Gene Krupa and Armand Zildjian, the term 'hi-hat' later came into existence as the opposite of 'low sock'. While original Low Boy stands are hard to find these days, the demand for them is huge. Thankfully, DW Drums now offer a modernised version of their own.
