General
We can safely say that it is easier to design a big and expensive keyboard than a small and inexpensive one. After all, it's very easy to just want everything, and if it all fits technically, you get the desired good keyboard as a result. But an inexpensive keyboard, that's the challenge. In that context, the NUX NEK-100 is quite remarkable, still scoring better than big-name competitors in the budget segment.
Features of the NUX NEK-100
Increasingly, we are seeing keyboards that can hold batteries, for mobile applications. It's possible, but you keep changing batteries. The NEK-100 takes a different approach: a rechargeable internal battery that lets you play for over ten hours. The sound then, not insignificantly. There is no avoiding the fact that the sound in a budget keyboard is incomparable to expensive models costing many thousands of euros. Nevertheless, this NUX also performs better than you might expect given the price. As befits a keyboard, it also has styles, and although the control panel looks a bit minimalistic, it is a complete keyboard. Much is accessible through the screen and the corresponding buttons, which is a difference compared to other keyboards where the options often have their own buttons.
Further possibilities
Many standard keyboard options are just there; like dual voices, split keyboard, transpose and reverb. In terms of connections, you get USB-C and even a bluetooth adapter is included. So you can also use this keyboard to control DAW software or interact with your mobile phone, for example. Now, there are certainly other keyboards that can do all this. But, add it all up... a portable keyboard weighing just over three kilos, a rechargeable battery with ten hours of usage time. At this price? The NEK-100 is worth it!
