General

LED technology is a popular feature in the world of studio gear, and rightly so. RGB LEDs do not only provide great visuals, but also make it easier to control your devices. The Akai Advance 49 USB/MIDI keyboard uses LED technology to its full extent, and boasts a good deal of outstanding functionality to boot! It really lives up to its name - few other USB/MIDI controllers offer such advanced options. All the familiar controls - encoders, pads and transport buttons - are at your disposal, but it's the 4.3-inch colour display that really stands out.

Characteristics of the Akai Advance 49 USB/MIDI keyboard

VIP, which is short for Virtual Instrument Player, is the one of the main reasons to invest in the Akai Advance. Compatible with both Windows and Mac systems, the VIP software is able to host VSTs itself, but can also be used in your DAW, ensuring perfect integration with the Advance. In essence, it bridges the gap between physical hardware and the many possibilities of software. The sizeable display of the Akai Advance 49 has virtual controls that can be mapped for most common VSTs (mapping is included), and allows you to select the desired presets. This is particularly useful when you're performing live - you can use the Advance for full control and leave your laptop out of sight, making your show look all the more smooth.

Additional possibilities

The more traditional characteristics of the Advance are up to the same high-end standard. The 49 keys of the USB/MIDI keyboard are semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive and offer aftertouch. Eight velocity and pressure-sensitive, backlit pads and traditional transport buttons are at your disposal, as are eight rotary encoders with LEDs, which always indicate the right parameter settings. Not only does the Akai Advance prove its merits on stage, it's also a great asset in the studio. This impressive piece of technology comes with no less than 16 GB of VSTs by AIR, SONiVOX and Toolroom Records. With more than 10,000 high-quality sounds - divided over nine plug-ins - at your disposal, you're able to start making music right out of the box. Are you looking for a great USB/MIDI keyboard with seamless DAW integration? The Akai Advance 49 is ready to get cracking!
