General
Why do things the hard way? Why mess around with cables when you can do things wirelessly? The CME Xkey Air 37 is a MIDI keyboard that sends its signal to your iPad, iPhone, Android device, PC or Mac via Bluetooth, and does so with minimal latency. It sounds like little more than a cool gimmick, but nothing could be further from the truth. CME garnered much critical acclaim with their USB-model Xkey, thanks to its highly comfortable full-sized keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch in a sturdy yet ultra-thin frame. This wireless version is just as well thought-out, so it's sure to please many demanding mobile producers all over the world.
Xkey Air 37: aftertouch and Smart Buttons
One of the Xkey Air 37's more up-market functions is its polyphonic aftertouch - each of the 37 keys can send an individual aftertouch signal to your connected device. Aftertouch means that you can influence the timbre or character of the note you're playing while you're pressing the key. Gently moving the key from side to side while it's pressed down allows for a great vibrato effect, for instance. Additionally, the Xkey Air features Smart Buttons, which include octave up/down, and pressure-sensitive pitch bend and modulation controls. All in all, this is a highly complete, reliable and very lightweight MIDI keyboard in a classy aluminium frame.
Tips or comments about this product
Please note:
- The video shows the USB version of the Xkey.
- The Xkey Air makes use of Bluetooth 4.0 / 4.1. Almost every Mac computer, iPad/iPhone (excluding the iPad 2 and older), modern Windows computer and modern tablet support this Bluetooth protocol. If the Xkey doesn't work with your computer or your Bluetooth signal it too weak, then the separately available CME WIDI BUD can be used. Smartphones and tablets without with a USB port will require suitable USB OTG adapter as well as the WIDI BUD.

They probably won't be out until later this year, but CME simply could not wait to divulge this big news. That's because the Xkey Air 25 and the Xkey Air 37 are completely wireless MIDI keyboards! These Bluetooth-compatible versions of the regular Xkey keyboard still have the same low latency, so there'll be virtually no delay between the stroke of a key and the generation of sound.
