The IK Multimedia iRig Keys 25 is an ultra-compact MIDI keyboard with 25 comfortable mini keys. Unlike the regular iRig keyboards, this USB keyboard was specifically designed for Windows and Mac users. It's also compatible with iOS and Android, however (see Tips for more information). The iRig Keys 25 is a remarkably practical, no-nonsense MIDI controller with a basic keyboard and a compact housing that easily fits into your bag. Simply plug it into your laptop's USB port, and you can get to work anywhere, any time. A USB cable and an instrument bundle are included.
iRig Keys 25: a practical tool
A MIDI keyboard like the iRig Keys 25 is a great way of recording melodies and chords in your DAW software. Install a virtual instrument plugin, such as the included SampleTank SE, and you're able to play any instrument you want, from pianos and guitars to drums and synthesizers. Instead of producing your own tracks, would you rather just play for playing's sake? In that case, SampleTank can also be used without a DAW. The stylishly black iRig Keys 25 keyboard is equipped with a volume/data encoder and two edit/octave buttons. Some of the keyboard keys double as program controls.
Tips or comments about this product- The MIDI keyboard can also be connected to an iOS device (iOS 4.3 or higher) or an Android device (Android 5.0 or higher, or a Samsung Professional Audio device). To do so, however, you'll need a separately available Camera Connection Kit (iOS 30-pin), Lightning-USB adapter (iOS Lightning) or USB-OTG adapter (Android).

Je l'ai choisi parce qu'il était le plus petit en largeur mais le toucher est du niveau d'un jouet, toutefois suffisant pour l'utilisation que j'en avais projeté. Une fois le produit enregistré, on peut télécharger toute une suite logicielle dont le produit phare est SampleTank3 : un synthé logiciel et séquenceur quasiment inutilisable : l'installation n'est pas évidente et l'utilisation non plus même après lecture du manuel. Sous Windows 8.1 - 64 bits, l'application en stand alone fonctionne mais ne donne accès qu'à une dizaine d'instruments sur les 4 Go de samples, le plugin VST ne fonctionne pas (et c'est reconnu par le fabricant dans sa FAQ : pour l'instant, il est considéré comme du 64 bits, mais il ne fonctionne pas avec un logiciel 64 bit !!!). J'ai tenté une installation avec wine sous Linux : l'application en stand alone fonctionne, donne accès à tous les instruments (plus de 100), mais avec une latence insupportable, ce qui n'est pas le cas d'autres synthés logiciels conçus initialement pour Windows. Quand au plugin VST, son association avec un séquenceur est refusée.
En conclusion, je pense que ce produit n'est pas compétitif avec d'autres offres de la même gamme de prix mais qui donnent accès à des logiciels utilisables.
