A lot of people yearn to start producing music but have no idea where to begin. To save you from your own bewilderment, Nektar offer all fledgling production masters what might as well be a starter pack: the 61-note Nektar Impact GX49 USB/MIDI keyboard. Fully primed for computer-based music production, this keyboard comes loaded with even more controls than the Impact iX61 that came before it, giving you even more DAW control.
Features of the Nektar Impact LX61
No power supplies, no long cables are needed, since the GX61 is 100% USB powered. So, if your USB device happens to have a class compliant MIDI driver, then it will work with the Impact. Naturally, all of the usual operation-system-based suspects are fully supported from Windows XP onwards, and from OS X 10.5 up, and Linux is also supported as long as a USB MIDI driver has been installed. The GX61 can even be hooked up to an iPad using a USB Camera Kit (not included), giving you a gymnastically flexible set up that can be used at home, in the studio, and even on the road.
Bitwig 8-Track
Nektar have generously thrown in a free copy of Bitwig 8-Track, doubling your investment and completing the production pack. This entry-level DAW gives you everything you need to start producing straight away, so all you need to add is your computer and you have your own home studio. While Bitwig 8-Track is a slimmed down version of Bitwig Studio, you get a streamlined interface and all of the essential tools so you start shaping your first project and get to grips with the tricks of the trade.

De DAW-controls zijn beperkt tot zaken als transport, transpose, octaaf +/- e.d. met 1 draaiknop. Zoek je uitvoerige DAW-control dan zou ik verder kijken (zelf combineer ik dit midikeyboard met een Novation Launchcontrol XL, dat maakt het flexibel). De knoppen zijn rubberachtig en sommigen zijn verlicht; voldoen goed.
Nektar werkt out of the box niet helemaal soepel met Ableton Live, maar dat is deels met een te downloaden scriptje vrij goed op te lossen. Bitwig wordt als download meegeleverd, maar dit is de 8-track (beginners) versie.
Prettig dat een serieuze selectie aan midikeyboards bij Bax in Goes rustig uit te testen valt. Zeker de feel van toetsen en de degelijkheid van constructie is "smaakafhankelijk". Er gaat dan niets boven een persoonlijk direct vergelijk!
