General
Ableton Live software offers a provocative, contemporary way to compose music. It isn’t just good for loops and single-shots, but for physically controlling music with a variety of controllers. For all intents and purposes, it’s really a new type of musical instrument, although ‘composition instrument’ might be a better term. Novation and Akai have brought out such controllers for Live, but the Ableton Push USB controller for Ableton Live (French) is Ableton’s own Live controller. And what a controller it is! This controller offers a large number of keys/pads, dials, and other control elements so you can really bring your production to life. Ableton worked with Akai—a company that has done a lot of work with these kinds of controllers—in the development of the Ableton push.
Operating the Ableton Push
The Ableton Push offers a physical interface that looks like what you see on your PC screen when you’re working in Live. The controller is equipped with multi-coloured touch and velocity sensitive keys that you can use to create your song structure step by step. The process begins by creating your loops using the keys, which function much like a keyboard. Later on you can convert the keys to take it all to the next level and put together a complete song. This is a really fun process that works great with contemporary production methods for the wide variety of electro genres. The buttons can all perform a number of different functions, and thanks to the colour-coding method you’ll always know what the current function of a key is.
Transport buttons and other keys
The Push is a real all-rounder that gives your PC keyboard and mouse a break. That is, of course, a real advantage for modern musicians—hardware based on software. The Push is also equipped with transport keys and hot keys for carrying out specific tasks. Numerous rotary dials are available for adjusting parameters, and the unique touch strip can be used as a pitch bender for adding expression to your sounds. Another attractive aspect of this product is the fact that it comes with Ableton Live Intro (French), so you can get going right away.
