The D'Addario Mic Mute is a very handy little device, which really shouldn't be missing from the stage manager's accessory case. What's the case; you place the Mic Mute on your microphone (between the mic and the XLR cable), and two small 'eyes' on the Mic Mute check whether the vocalist or speaker is there. If that performer walks away (we are talking about a distance of about 60 cm), the microphone signal goes on mute. And that offers advantages! Just think: as the front of house, you automatically avoid background noise and feedback risks. The Mic Mute works on phantom power, so no extra equipment is needed.
