Not only does it practically do away with the need for an amplifier, it's a surprisingly compact pedal that covers all the basics and more. While this potent pedal can still be jacked into an amp to dial in your sound at lower volumes, an XLR output with ground lift now enables you to plug the pedal directly into a stage box, sound system or external audio interface for full-on, top-quality sound. If you're a proud owner of the V2's critically acclaimed predecessor, this'll only take you a minute and you'll be up and playing soon enough. Before you put your game face on, make sure to hold down the foot switch for a few to mute the sound and use the built-in tuner to properly get your guitar in tune.

Packed with analogue Samsamp technology, the core of this Tech 21 pedal consists of American Tweed-style sounds that you might recognise from the Blonde stompbox. There's a plexi/cali section loaded with high-gain, boutique '70s tones if you need a little more rock, all of which can be prominently emphasized using the +12 dB boost. Delay effects have stuck around for the second version of the Fly Rig 5 and even include settings for eighths and quarter counts, but if you don't mind to go on the occasional vintage-drenched and modulation-infused adventure, you're definitely going to want to experiment with the Drift pot.
