MPE for Prophet-6 & OB-6
The beauty of an operating system is that, years after the initial release, you can keep adding bits and pieces, And that’s exactly what Dave Smith and Sequential have done.
Fresh OS - Fresh Potential
While the Prophet-6 and OB-6 are already getting on a bit, they're put right back on track with a seriously upgraded OS, and the three major changes it brings with it:
First, MPE: MIDI Polyphonic Expression is still a fairly new concept in the world of synthesis and developers and users alike are still getting to grips with the possible applications. Previously, certain MIDI controllers were linked via a whole MIDI channel, like pitch-bend, but with MPE, these controllers can suddenly be linked to individual keystrokes. If you're familiar with the Roli Seaboard, this might ring a bell since the same idea applies, and now, the Prophet-6 and OB-6 engines are now MPE capable!
Second, vintage-mode: a feature first introduced for the Prophet-5, this mode simulates the familiar fluctuations produced by synths of yesteryear. Drench it in some delay or reverb, and you have yourself a thick, old-school sound.
The third feature is specific to the keyboard models of the Prophet-6 and OB-6: improved aftertouch-curves. This renewed response packs more expression into the keyboard playability.
These fundamental little tweaks and upgrades have dropped out of the blue, for a pair of synths that have already been around for a while. Sweet, right? See the product pages below to see how you can get hold of these upgrades.
