Product information
General
This pandeiro's gorgeous wooden frame with a Chestnut finish is made of rubberwood and has a 12" diameter. It's equipped with a replaceable True Feel synthetic drumhead that reduces unwanted overtones, and 8 pairs of chrome-plated jingles that deliver a beautifully bright sound. The hardware is also chrome-plated, and like you can see in the picture, includes countersunk bolt lugs. One of this pandeiro's particularly noteworthy features is its 3/8" mount that allows you to easily attach it to any standard percussion arm.
The difference between a tambourine and a pandeiro
Both instruments belong to the family of frame drums. However, a pandeiro has a tunable drumhead that gives the player the option to adjust the pitch, whereas a tambourine does not. Furthermore, a pandeiro produces fewer overtones than a tambourine. Another important difference lies in the jingles that are used. A tambourine usually has flat jingles, while a pandeiro has domed jingles that produce a shorter, sharper and drier sound, allowing you to play complex (Brazilian) rhythms with optimal clarity.
Frame drums
Every region, country and continent has its own typical style of frame drum. Some frame drums have many jingles, where others have few or none. What all of them have in common, however, is a drumhead—except for the headless tambourine, but every family has a rebel. Other types of frame drums include the Irish bodhran, the Indian kanjira, the Russian buben, the North-African bendir and tar, and the Scandinavian sami drum. Just like the tamborim, for instance, the pandeiro originated in Brazil, while the tambourine originated in Europe. The biggest difference between all these different frame drums is usually in the drumheads they use, the jungles, and of course their construction.
