Self-Build Cajon Packs: Wood or Cardboard
You can get wooden or cardboard DIY cajon kits. While wooden cajon kits are generally more expensive than cardboard kits, you're getting a higher quality, fully-fledged instrument. That said, don't underestimate the amount of fun you can have with a more affordable cardboard model; they don't take long to put together and kids love them. Or would you prefer a pre-built cajon?
Make Your Own Cajon
Constructing a cajon isn't too difficult. Most of the kits in our shop - including Meinl's Make Your Own Cajon packs and Sela's Snare Cajon Kits - come with the materials and instructions that you're going to need, so the wooden panels, the playing surface, the snare wire(s), a sanding block, a set of rubber feet, screws and glue. One thing that you might need though is a basic battery-powered drill for the screw holes. Some kits include video instructions to ease the assembly process, so make sure to have a look at the product specifications to see what's included in any kit. Once the build is finished, your self-made cajon can be upgraded with various cajon accessories. Have fun!
