It may look small, but the ART TUBEMP/C valve preamp is able to add a fat boost of up to 80dBs to your signal. At the heart of this magic little box lies a hand-selected 12AX7a valve that injects the sound with characteristic warmth while a built-in compressor ensures the best possible signal. Since the TUBEMP/C is so small, it's the perfect home-studio microphone and line preamp.
The ART TUBEMP/C: How it Works
The TUBEMP/C comes equipped with various control buttons and LED indicators that offers a clear overview of the settings, levels and active functions like the Tube Drive, Gain Reduction, and the Output Level. A gain pad and standard gain as well as a low-cut filter have also been provided, and once the internal valve has been switched on, you're handed control over the speed, slope, and opto compression, and the threshold is dialled in using a variable rotary knob. The output can also be put out of phase as needed, and for that finishing touch, the volume of the treated signal can be tweaked as needed.

La douceur peut être au rendez-vous si vous êtes parcimonieux sur les réglages; n'ajoutez pas trop de chaleur et vous serez bluffés. Utilisé avec un Seinnheiser e865, le tube n'est jamais sollicité totalement et son gain reste modeste; néanmoins cela est amplement suffisant pour la carte son.
Avec une guitare nylon électroacoustique active, les choses changent fondamentalement; le gain du tube est sensible, la saturation et le clip ne sont pas loin, prudence donc. Comme pour la voix il faut être délicat; qui plus est, la qualité du son en pâtira. Ne cherchez pas la grosse disto; vous serez déçus.
Le compresseur (2/1) est parfait sur les voix si ce n'est que les leds me semblent n'être pas calibrées; avec l'utilisation de la guitare il y a suffisamment de gain pour visualiser son travail.
Le gain de sortie est pêchu; ne pas oublier de le mettre à zéro avant la mise en service.
Pour en terminer, les fonctions "annexes" ne sont pas là pour faire joli; alimentation phantom, lowcut pad, dephase et limiteur sont de plus indispensables pour faciliter l'enregistrement.
Le produit répond donc parfaitement à ce à quoi il est destiné: utilisation voix / guitare.
J'y ai branché une basse passive pour essai; je n'ai pas été satisfait; le compresseur étant trop limité.
Je ferais peut-être un test sur un Mix mais les habitudes ont la vie dure, mes plug-in me sont familiés.

Ik wilde hem als lijnversterker gebruiken met de comp.functie en ik moet zeggen dat hij prima gebouwd is, alleen de comp is wat overheersend en filtert mijn middel/hoog weg en met by-pass, wat prima werkt, vind ik de uitgang niet mooi genoeg. Misschien dat de bron qua signal teveel ruis bevat, ik heb niets gemeten. Maar voor bas appilcaties werkt hij prima en alles is
ruimschoots instelbaar. Levert een prima vol laag op. Maar kwam erachter dat ik nog een goede pre-amp, ingang met comp heb, dus stuur ik hem terug en ga eens kijken voor andere monitoren:)....
De bouw is echt goed met de massieve behuizing, de voeding met de plug vind ik minder, maar is stevig. Jammer alleen dat er geen art-stickertje opstaat..... Na verloop van tijd zoek je je de ****** tussen alle trafo's. Een Jack in had van mij er ook bijgemogen.
