The Akai Tom Cat is an analogue drum machine with a sturdy, professional housing, a nicely coloured finish and stylish side panels. Like many other drum machines, the Tom Cat offers a specific set of parameters for each of its drum sounds. In addition to the inevitable kick and snare, it provides you with a clap, an open and a closed hi-hat, and a percussion sound - you can choose between a conga and a disco tom. A maul knob adds a nice bit of grime - this is a cat you want to handle with kid gloves.
The possibilities of the Akai Tom Cat
The Tom Cat is remarkably easy to operate. Simply trigger sounds with the six illuminated MPC-style pads, adjust the sounds with the parameter knobs, and control the sequencer with the 16 pads lined along the bottom. The Tom Cat offers hands-on control, so there's no need to waste time on menus, but there is a shift button that allows for additional options. It's also possible to control the Akai drum machine via MIDI or USB-MIDI - this Tom Cat will be happily purring away in any modern studio.
