General
This Fender Japan TN-SPL 3TS is a true gem from the east. This guitar is what is called a Telecaster Thinline Special (in 3-tone Sunburst). The Tele Thinline is characterised by a partially hollow body, in this case made of beautifully grained and deep, clear-sounding ash. Above its hollow parts there's an f-shaped sound hole, making the TN-SPL sound a bit sweeter than a traditional Telecaster, and giving the guitar a somewhat acoustic tone when amplified.
Fender Japan TN-SPL 3TS: versatile SSH pickup configuration
The 'Special' part of this Japanese Telecaster Thinline is its SSH pickup configuration. It is equipped with a set of Fender USA Special single-coils for that bright bite and twang, plus a Fender Dragster humbucker in the neck position for warm, jazzy and bluesy sounds. The neck of the TN-SPL looks distinctively vintage but features a 22nd fret as well as a modern 9.8-inch radius for more comfortable playing. To ensure the best tuning performance, this guitar was fitted with high-quality vintage-style Gotoh machine heads.
Fender Japan guitars
Japanese Fenders, in this case made by the Dyna Gakki factory, are high-end instruments that were never meant to travel abroad. These hand-built guitars were made for the Japanese market only yet are highly coveted all over the world for their combination of vintage design and extremely high quality. They have the looks of the American Vintage series, the build quality of the professional American Standard models, yet they're still amazingly affordable.
