ENO has developed theis very reasonably-priced, remarkably compact TC-21 Ambient Echo effects pedal. If you have a bit of space left on your pedal board, a tape echo is a great addition to your arsenal of effects. It's especially designed for guitarists who like to perform with a short slapback delay. This spacious tape echo effect is great for '50s-style music like rock 'n roll and surf.

TC-21 Ambient Echo AE-1

The ENO AE-1 is a True Bypass effect. This means that when the effect is switched off, the sound of your guitar won't be coloured by the stomp box, even though the two are connected. With four potentiometers, theis Ambient Echo has a substantial amount of control over all the effects parameters. Use the Volume and EQ to adjust the output volume and colour of the TC-21's sound. With the Feedback knob, you can determine the length of this ENO effect, and the Rate potentiometer to controls the speed.

Was op zoek naar een simpel echo effect om een slapback echo toe te voegen. Simpel is ie zeker, weinig instelmogelijkheden maar die slapback doet ie prima. Voordeel is ook het miniformaat, makkelijk voor in de oefenruimte. De prijs maakt het ook de moeite waard om dit boxje aan te schaffen. Kwaliteit is wat je voor die prijs kan verwachten, eerlijk is eerlijk. Helaas veel bijgeluiden, wat erger wordt als je de volumeknop opendraait, iets minder erg met een duurdere voeding (batterij kan er niet in) maar ik heb 'm hierom toch terug gestuurd en kijk nu uit naar iets anders. Service van Bax is prima wat dat betreft.

Heel authentiek vintage geluid. Dat is leuk. Maar er zitten wel een paar nadeeltjes aan. Met het effect aan zit er geen "droog gitaargeluid" in het uitgangssignaal. Alleen met de tone knop maximaal rechtsom komt de klankkleur van de uitgang overeen met de ingang, maar dan heb je heel veel ruis erbij. Als je de tone terugdraait wordt het geluid donkerder en verlies je steeds meer attack. Je kunt er wel leuke ronk&roll en surf geluiden uithalen, maar echt breed inzetbaar is dit pedaaltje niet.
