Strymon has taken every effort to produce an accurate digital recreation of that analogue tape echo sound of yesteryear. With the use of analytic software, they have meticulously studied original machines in minute detail to faithfully recreate every nuance. The absurdly powerful SHARC® processor is the brain that executes the complex calculations necessary for the Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo to give you every reason to believe that a reel of tape is hidden somewhere in this stompbox. You simply won't find a more comprehensive, more nerdy, more lovingly designed tape echo pedal anywhere else.
The El Capistan
Use the Tape Head switch to flip between Fixed, Multi and Single head replication. The Fixed mode for example, gives the effect of a fixed tape head and your 'tape' speed can be set by toggling the Time pot and the Mode switch determines your echo speed (1/4, 1/8 and 1/16). Switching into Multi (two tape heads at once) or the Single (one tape head) mode, gives you a fixed tape speed with variable tape head position. In Mode C, the El Capistan functions as a loop pedal.
Fresh or Worn-Out Tape
The El Capistan doesn't just imitate the classic tape machines from way back when but is also able to mimic the charm of old and knackered tape just as convincingly as it does fresh tape. Full open up the Wow & Flutter pot to get the warped flavour of tape that's seen better days and hit the Tape Age button to simulate the dark sound of a tape in desperate need of replacement. Thanks to the double functions of the five controls, you can fine-tune the pedal's sound from super clean to extremely warped and dull.

Het doel van Strymon was om tape delays na te bouwen en dat is ze echt wel gelukt. De mooie radiohead-achtige modulation sounds die uit dit ding komen zijn geweldig. En moest je die klanken effe beu zijn, dan kan je ze gewoon uitzetten en het gebruiken als je standaard gepubteerde achtsten delay of whatever.
De tap tempo is ook vet bij dit pedaaltje. Behalve je tempo tappen, kan je ook de switch inhouden en zo je repeats oneindig laten doorklinken waardoor hij dan uiteindelijk feedbacked. Een tof effect dat ik live gebruik tussen de nummers door. Of in bepaalde sferischere nummers.
Het is zijn geld echt wel waard en ik zou het zo opnieuw doen.

- perfect geluid dat niet compleet door de digitale mangel gaat
- makkelijk bedienbaar (in een handomdraai heb je de sound die je in je hoofd hebt)
- deze delay kan zowel vintage als heel mooi clean ingesteld worden
- hij wordt gewoon gemaakt in het land waar ie is ontworpen
- lekker klein en handzaam
Tip: kijk op youtube naar 'that pedal show', de aflevering met de el capistan, de fulltone tape echo, de catalinbread belle epoch en de dunlop echoplex en je weet precies waar het over gaat.

Wat een geweldig pedaal is dit zeg....
Lang getwijfeld ivm de prijs maar hij is het dubbel en dwars waard. Heel veel mogelijk heden en wat een geluid.

De drukknop die niet klikt is zo aangenaam dat ik 'm mis op mijn andere pedalen.
Heb er ook 't kleine klikbakje bijgekocht.

In het begin twijfelde ik wat aan de prijs maar uiteindelijk ben ik er toch voor gegaan. Nog geen moment spijt van gehad. Deze digitale pedaal creëert dromerige, analoge delay klanken en heeft veel knopjes om mee te spelen (secondary functions). Geweldige pedaal van Strymon.
Voor mij zeker een aanrader!
