The Violin Bass is one of the most striking bass guitars in the world. This hollow-body bass made its claim to fame in the hands of Paul McCartney, giving it its nickname: the Beatles Bass. More recently spotted in bands like Deerhoof, the Höfner Ignition Violin Bass is a more affordable version of this influential instrument. It has the same violin-like shape and finish and is fully hollow for those characteristic double-bass tones. Its other distinctive features include a comfortable short scale length, pearloid pickguard and Hofner tailpiece.
Ignition Violin Bass: a manageable bass guitar
Besides the unforgettable look, this lightweight bass is bestowed with a distinct sound. Its humbuckers, hollow body and tone controls combine to produce a surprisingly versatile and rich tone. You can use the volume controls to adjust the volume level of each pickup and the bass and treble switches to turn them on or off independently. Already left a revue with strong praise, but felt the need to add to it after I had ditched the strings and re-strung with flatwound. What a transformation...if this guitar wasn't already a joy to play, now it has really gone up through the gears. Absolutely chuffing amazing! No fret buzz, wonderful slinky movement round the fretboard, and the sound especially on the upper notes is bloody amazing. They also inhibit fret wear. Tip: don't buy short-scale, they are too tight. Get medium scale. I forked out £40 for Chrome flatwound, but they will never need changing. It's a no brainer, and my playing has come on leaps and bounds on this incredible instrument, and the tone is marvelous... can't put it down.

Well Chuffed...
This was a thrill to unbox.. I couldn't dismiss the courier fast enough! On opening I was amazed at the sheer beauty of this instrument and couldn't wait to plug it in. A quick look over to check for any transit damage, but the ample packaging had done it's job well. After accustomising myself with the pickup selector switches I was soon noodling around the fretboard with ease exploring it's various tones. I love the stubby double bass tone associated with the Beatles right through to the gritty Stranglers punch, and then back to warm and mellow blues. Even being short-scale, it's sustain is incredible considering I'm only playing through an inexpensive 20W amp, plus there is more ground to explore with flatwound string options.
I am fairly new to bass, as I've played six string electric guitars for years...but the transition to this little Hofner gem was little more than effortless. It is light and incredibly easy to play, and because of it's small size, it feels like a regular six string when strapped on. I would recommend this instrument ideal as a first bass for budding bass men as it's size makes it so easy to zip your fingers around and develope your playing.
Even unplugged it sounds warm and rich, and the build quality is very good for it's price.
I am absolutely delighted as you may tell... can't praise it enough...look, my tea's gone cold!!!

Really like the playability and fun of this bass. Sounds great. Looks great from a bit of a distance.
Up close you can see this is a budget bass. Mine had some issue which Bax sorted out - the tailpiece was scratched, the scratchplate bracket was missing a screw and one of the strap pins was incorrectly moulded. The neck to body joint isn't as seamless as say epiphones usually are. The binding looks aged yellow in some places and bright white in others.
But they were building to a price, and on the plus side you get genuine spruce top, lovely flame maple back, maple sides, hard maple neck and rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
So on balance - I think I am glad about the compromises made. I have a bass that sounds and looks great and plays as you would expect with this style bass (short scale hollow body Beatles style bass).

Ik had ooit een violin bass van een ander merk. Na wat reviews gelezen en gezien te hebben ben ik overgegaan tot de aanschaf van deze Höfner. De bas is heel fraai afgewerkt, speelt heel soepel en heeft een mooi geluid. De intonatie is af fabriek heel redelijk ingesteld. Echt een aanwinst naast mijn Fender Jazz bas. Zeker als Beatle-fan

Reçue dans les 2 jours. Emballage extérieur un peu abîmé sans dommage interne.
Excellente première impression
Lutherie vraiment honnête avec un bémol sur le sillet qui mérite un chanfrein car angle saillant gène le positionnement de la main gauche en bas du manche.
A part ça les réglages sont ok.
En acoustique sonne bien ce qui permet de s'entraîner tout le temps.
Les micros un peu faibles en sortie mais le son électrique réagit bien aux nuances doigt et médiator.
Excellent rapport qualité prix
