General
The SRF700-BBF, also known as the SR Portamento, is part of the Bass Workshop Series by Ibanez. After having developed bass guitars for the masses for forty years, Ibanez now also focus on more exclusive instruments for critical bass players with special demands. This SRF700-BBF is a four-string fretless bass guitar that boasts a neck-through-body construction and has been equipped with active electronics.
The Build
The body of this SR Portamento model is made of mahogany, which is a fairly dense, delicately grained kind of wood. A little red-brownish, mahogany is known to produce a warm, full sound and masses of sustain, which explains the beautiful 'ring' this bass has to it. Finished in Brown Burst Flat, the body combines with a 5-piece maple/bubinga neck, while the fretless fretboard has been carved out of panga panga wood. Add it all up, and you get an ultra-stable build and a bass that's able to shape clear and rich tone.
Bartolini Pickups & Aerosilk Piezo System
The SRF700-BBF has been equipped with two Bartolini MK1 pickups and a 2-part tone control. These active humbucking pickups create a huge range of sounds without hum or noise, while the Aerosilk piezo system provides a highly natural sound based on the different types of wood used for the build. In fact, thanks to the piezos, it's even possible to dial in sound that comes close to an amplified acoustic bass guitar. Activate both the Bartolinis and the piezos, and you're treated to tight, modern and amazingly 'woody' tone.

Wat een fijne basgitaar. Het is even wennen om fretless te spelen, maar de markeringen op de zijkant van de hals geven dat beetje ondersteuning wat heel fijn is. Wel moet je je vingers als het ware 'op de fret' zetten en niet ernaast zoals bij een bas met frets.
Heel fijn ook dat je kunt wisselen tussen de humbuckers en het piëzo element of alles samen.
Verder ziet deze basgitaar er ontzettend mooi uit. De keuze voor het hout van het fretboard en de doorlopende hals. De rest van de afwerking is ook heel mooi. Lekkere matte afwerking wat de basgitaar een hele mooie uitstraling geeft. Ibanez weet wat ze doen. Het oog wil natuurlijk ook wat :-)
Ik gebruik deze bas naast een Ibanez bas met frets. Zo kan ik afwisselen met wat ik fijn vind bij het soort muziek wat ik speel.
Ik vind deze bas en echte aanrader. Zeker als je meerdere bassen thuis hebt staan zodat je kunt afwisselen.

Kleine actie bijstelling nodig voor de A-snaar. Eens ingeplugd , nekPU laten zakken voor betere volumebalans nek/brug.
Goede afwerking. Goed zichtbare punt en lijnmarkeringen op zijkant hals.
Laag gewicht goede balans , solide stille volume/toonregeling.
