In their Vintage Modified series, Squier features this rarely seen 6-string instrument with Jaguar-like body: the Bass VI baritone guitar. This instrument has its origins in the '60s and does a balancing act between guitar and bass guitar. Its strings can be tuned an octave lower than those of a guitar and it has an exceptionally high reach for bass guitar standards. An elevated tuning with thinner strings turns this Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI into a baritone guitar.
Bass VI from Squier's Vintage Modified series: rich sound
This new edition of a classic Fender guitar is equipped with three pickups. Near the bridge of the Squier Vintage Modified Bass VI we find a Custom Jaguar single-coil pickup that is characterised by a crystal clear clean, but also a simple and rich sound. Near the neck and in the middle position this guitar also features Custom Jaguar single-coil pickups, and the middle pickup is reverse-wound with reverse-polarity to eliminate the unwanted 50Hz hum. Next to a versatile sound, the Bass VI also features a floating tremolo, Jazz Bass knobs and a tortoise pickguard. This exceptional instrument has an Olympic White finish.

Als gitarist vind ik het een geweldige aanvulling op mn "gewone" gitaren.
Zeer veelzijdig, door de "Bass-cut" schakelaar kun je een opvallend mooie Bass-guitar sound krijgen (via de Bass amp) maar ook (met veel reverb) hèt geluid van The Shadows!!!!! (via de guitar amp)
Bovendien de enige Bass-guitar met een tremolo!
Zeer fraai afgewerkt en buitengewoon veel resonantie in de body, wat heerlijk aanvoelt!
Wel lood en loodzwaar om lang aan je schouders te hangen.......

Het is dus echt een instrument dat ligt tussen een gitaar en bas.
Door de afstand tussen de snaren speel ik de Bass VI met een plectrum. Een gewone bas speel ik altijd met mijn vingers.
Met de switches kun je allerlei combinaties van de pick-ups maken waardoor je een scala aan geluiden uit de Bass VI kunt halen. Van heel laag naar hoog.(Maar dus wel een octaaf hoger dan een gewone gitaar. )
Sommige akkoorden klinken niet goed op de Bass VI. Door het teveel laag. Maar kies je de juiste akkoorden dan kun je er toch hele leuke dingen mee doen.
Ik gebruik de Bass VI nu voornamelijk als ik bas met een plectrum wil spelen. (Soms klinkt dat beter.) Maar ik ontdek iedere keer weer nieuwe dingen.
Het is een mooi instrument en erg leuk om mee te experimenteren.
