General
Compact in size and suitable for lively surdo parties: the Meinl SU16AB-M. This surdo has a diameter of 16 inches and is made of hardwood. In samba music, the smallest surdo in the band is called the contrador. This drum is often used for the faster surdo parts with a lot of freedom for improvisation. The SU16AB-M has been given a traditional brown lacquer which nicely matches the chrome-plated shell hardware. An asset for any samba percussionist.
Meinl SU16AB-M: sturdy beating head
The battering surface can take a beating and is made of synthetic material. In addition, the head is slightly dampened, reducing overtones and ensuring a full sound. With a 20-inch drum head depth, this small surdo is excellent for faster passages. Meinl has fully recessed the tensioning bolts so they do not bother you while playing. A surdo with a warm rich sound suitable for contrador parts.
