A warm surdo of top quality: the Meinl SU18AB-M. This surdo has an 18-inch diameter and a chain depth of 22 inches. This size surdo is widely used in the Brazilian province of Bahia and is unprecedentedly popular in samba-reggae music. Meinl has composed the shell from 6 layers of high-quality hardwood. The result is a warm-sounding surdo with a full sound.
Meinl Bahia surdo: universally applicable
You can use this surdo in samba parades but also in a fixed surdo set-up. The shallow bowl makes it easy to take this surdo with you. The advantage of a Bahia surdo is that you can carry it lower, giving you more freedom to swing. Slight damping of the sheet provides a dull but rich surdo sound.
