The D’Angelico EX-59 looks like a classical guitar, but it has a sound with plenty of bite. The model was designed by John D’Angelico in 1959. What makes this archtop special is the inclusion of two P-90 pickups. Because they used more aggressive sounding pickups, the guitar has a unique sound, especially in combination with the large hollow body.

This D’Angelico guitar is an exact replica of the original EX-59 from 1959. The design hasn’t been changed, and as such it produces a nice, old-fashioned sound and has an equally charming and old-fashioned look. This is nicely accentuated by the lack of pickguard and the vintage style knobs for the volume and tone potentiometers.

D’Angelico is a legendary name in the world of guitars. At the tender age of 9, founder John D’Angelico, began working in his great uncle’s luthier shop where they built high-quality violins and mandolins. He applied the knowledge gained from building these instruments into the development of his own line of D’Angelico guitars and opened his first shop in Little Italy, New York, in 1932. After John D’Angelico died, his apprentice James D’Aquisto took over the company. To this very day, these two luthiers are considered to be the very best archtop guitar-builders of all time.
