In the Hybrid Special, Michael Kelly has actually managed to make a model that lies somewhere between a semi-acoustic and an electro-acoustic guitar. The thinline body sits under a stunning slice of spalted maple that gives shape to the naturally airy character of sound while both a piëzo pickup and two magnetic humbuckers are fitted to capture every dimension of the tone this hollowbody is able to produce. More standard-issue is the provided three-way pickup selector switch and blend-pot combo, so that the perfect balance can be struck between the three pickups and, while the blended sound can be outputted as normal, a stereo-jack, Y-style cable can also be used to split the piëzo and humbucker signals and send them to separate amplifiers.
