Aston Microphones are making quite a name for themselves in the world of audio. After the success of their Origin and Spirit mics, they launched this Starlight small-diaphragm condenser mic, which is the very first microphone in the world to be equipped with a laser! With it, you can reproduce essential mic positions in the studio and on stage. It's important to mark these positions so you're always sure of a consistent audio recording. The Starlight also features Aston's trademark housing, which means that the stainless-steel chassis has been individually tumbled for up to 4 hours, giving the metal a chic, industrial effect.
Sintered microphone head
Sintering, which is the process of forming a solid mass of material by heat or pressure without melting it, is not really a new technique in the world of microphones, but Aston have breathed new life into it with their Starlight mic. During this process, the contact points between the grains increase in size, resulting in an extremely hard material that's strong and also has perfect acoustic porosity. It's is also truly unique and eye-catching! If you're still not convinced of its audio quality, perhaps this fact will help: the cardioid capsule in this mic was chosen by a panel of 50 top producers after they took a series of blind hearing tests!
Discrete mic preamp
The Aston Starlight is equipped with a discrete microphone preamp that's been completely fine-tuned and built up from extremely high-quality materials. It offers ultra-high sensitivity, low noise, and a design that boasts lots of extra headroom. Both soft and loud recording environments can often be a challenge for most microphones, but the Starlight can handle both with ease without any risk of unwanted noise or clipping. You can count on articulated, crystal-clear sound every time. It also has a special voice switching feature so you can choose different tonal characteristics for your recording that include vintage, modern or a mix of both. It also has a pad switch as well as an on/off switch.

Het richten is zeer eenvoudig dankzij de laser, de bouwkwaliteit is zeer degelijk en mooi afgewerkt, je zou niet zeggen dat het een microfoon in deze prijsklasse is.
De klank na de eerste opnames (drums) is mooi. Goede duidelijke weergave. Het maakt eigenlijk niet zoveel uit waarvoor je hem gebruikt, of het nu snare of overheads is, deze mic staat overal z'n mannetje. Veelzijdig dus! Ik kan me ook goed voorstellen dat hij live goed bruikbaar is, al heb ik dat nog niet zelf geprobeerd.
De komende tijd ga ik me meer in alle mogelijkheden verdiepen, kijk nu al uit naar het experimenteren.
Jammer dat er een eenvoudige klem bij zit, ik heb er een Devine SHM-10 bij gekocht. Deze past goed en de mic zit er stevig in. Ook was een mooi bewaardoosje fijn geweest, nu is het slechts een eenvoudige kartonnen verpakking. Aan de andere kant kun je dat voor deze prijs ook niet echt verwachten.
Een ding is zeker: deze mic is zeer veel waar voor z'n geld!
