For their Starphonic series, Tama has gone in search of a unique snare sound. Each model, including this 14 x 8-inch Maple edition, has a sturdy, rich sound, offering full projection and a tight, crisp tone. This particular snare drum has a sizeable shell made of 6 layers of maple, so it offers a deep, full sound. As an added bonus, it features a Gloss Mappa Burl finish. The Starphonic snare is a limited edition; there are only 50 of them available world-wide!
Starphonic hardware
To get the very best sound out of this snare drum, Tama has equipped it with top-notch hardware like the Grooved Hoops and Claw Hook tuning system. The hoops aren't pre-drilled for tension rods, but are kept firmly in place with tension hooks instead. Thanks to a special bearing edge, this snare isn't as hard on your sticks either. The tension rods go from the claws directly into the innovative Freedom Lugs, which have minimal contact with the shell. Because the head is held in place by only 8 rods, this snare boasts a very open sound.
Strainer and wires
Underneath this drum, Tama has placed their patented Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy snares for a sharp, crisp sound. They also equipped it with a Linear Drive strainer to keep the wires securely in place. This strainer prevents a single wire from touching the head when it's engaged. Contrary to other strainers, this one has no acceleration at the end. Lastly, for optimal control over your sound, this snare comes complete with a batter head and a resonance head by Evans.
