General
The Tama PST146 Starphonic Steel is a snare drum with a 1mm-thick steel shell. That means this 14 x 6-inch drum offers an exceptionally potent projection. Crank the head up tight for a loud, direct sound or loosen it up a bit if you want that lower, old-school sound. But whatever you do, the snare will always provide a crystal-clear, open sound that will cut through even the most aggressive of mixes.
The modern Tama PST-146
The PST-146 stands out from the crowd thanks to a rather impressive number of high-end features. It's equipped with a modern 'grooved' hoop, that is not just sturdy, but its design actually enhances the natural tone and projects it upwards. Furthermore, this 'Grooved Hoop' makes your snare more sensitive, and gives you more accurate control. Together with the Freedom Lugs and Claw Hooks it makes replacing the drumhead a breeze.
User-friendly and very sensitive
Tama has done everything they can to make this Starphonic snare as user-friendly and comfortable as possible. The snare wires, for instance, are highly sensitive and are held in place by the Linear-Drive snare strainer that minimises pressure on the shell. And even if you move the arm rapidly, you will not hear that well-known slap of the wires hitting the bottom head. You can even replace the bottom head without losing the tension settings on your snare wires.
