General

Just a quick glance at Gretsch's G9500 Jim Dandy Flat Top is enough to let you know that this instrument is inspired by American Roots music from the '30s, '40s and '50s. According to Gretsch, this guitar offers "Crackerjack quality for a sober price". The Jim Dandy model is a parlour-style guitar with a bright, characteristic sound that is excellent for genres like delta blues, folk country and blue-grass. The fact that it offers excellent value for money is just one of the reasons why this model sells like hot cakes. This version has a beautiful Roundup Burst finish.

Gretsch Jim Dandy sound and construction

Parlour guitars are smaller in size than regular models and tend to deliver a brighter sound. The Gretsch Jim Dandy has a scale length of 24 inches. It has a body made of agathis that produces a warm sound with plenty of projection. A nato neck and rosewood fretboard add a touch more warmth to the tone too. The result is an instrument with a characteristically bright parlour-sound that never becomes too sharp, thanks to the wood types used. It's a great model for playing finger style or slide guitar on. Taking its authentic looks into consideration, it's easy to see why this model is so popular.

Jim Dandy Roundup Burst finish

The semi-gloss Roundup Burst finish is an unusual orangey/brown-type colour that gives this instrument a unique appearance. A dark rosewood fretboard with pearloid dot position markers and white binding along the body complete the look. So, if you're searching for an instrument with an authentic look to match its vintage sound, then why not give the Gretsch G9500 a try? It's not just a looker, it's a keeper too!

Limited Edition Gretsch Jim Dandy

Wednesday 9 March 2016 By Richard | Bax Music

That the Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy is still as popular as ever is no surprise. It's a lovely, attractively priced parlour-style guitar that makes you think of the early Delta Blues. An instrument like this really doesn't need to be changed. Gretsch do bring out limited editions of this model in different colours every now and then however, just like this G9500 Jim Dandy Barn Wood Burst.
