General
The Yamaha MX61 is the 61-key version of the attractive MX Music Synthesizer. These synths have more than a thousand elaborate MOTIF XS sounds under the hood, together with a variety of convincing vintage effects (VCM), such as EQ, flanger, phaser and wah. But the MX-synthesizers are much, much more than that! They offer unbelievable power integration with sequencer software like Cubase, Digital Performer and Sonar, along with the VST plugins those programs provide.
MX-61: more than a synthesizer
This 128-voice polyphone instrument doesn't only play a lot of notes, it can also play 16 parts simultaneously. This works by sending different MIDI tracks (via MIDI or USB) from your software to your MX-61. Moreover, the Yamaha MX-61 doesn't only function as a MIDI device, but also as a full-functioning external sound card! This means that all of the audio from your PC or Mac can be directly heard in high-quality via the headphone jack or line-out.
Inputs, outputs, and Cubase
We can definitely expect the necessary in/outputs from a high-quality instrument like the MX61. In addition to the headphone output and 6.3-mm line-out, the synthesizer has a 3.5-mm AUX-input, MIDI IN/OUT, and two USB connections (computer and external memory) on board. You can also connect a foot controller and a sustain pedal. Another excellent extra is the included DAW software (Steinberg Cubase), which includes two VTS instruments.
