The flugelhorn is one of the most important instruments in a fanfare orchestra - some groups have upwards of 14! If you'd rather have a more unique role, then this instrument is also a key player in brass bands, where you'll be more likely to find just one or two flugelhorn players. Flugelhorns can also be found in concert bands, though that is less common nowadays. Of course, you could always play pop or jazz, as these genres often feature the flugelhorn for ballads and solo pieces that need a warm brass sound.
