General
The Ohana CK-22 concert ukulele features a solid spruce top, and a mahogany body and sides. It offers a bright, open and warm sound, and it's fitted with excellent geared tuners that ensure it doesn't go out of tune. The bridge and fingerboard are also made of a durable wood type: ovangkol. This 19-fret concert ukulele features a satin finish and bindings along the top and back of the body. It even comes with Aquila strings. It's a high-quality instrument that is well-suited for both beginners and advanced players, and it's highly affordable to boot!
The ukulele: as popular as ever
In 1879, the ukulele was brought to Hawaii by Portuguese immigrants. While most people associate the uke directly with Hawaiian music, the instrument became increasingly popular in various other parts of the world - especially the US - between the First and Second World Wars. The ukulele quickly became an icon of the jazz age, and in the 1920s, more and more professional and amateur musicians began discovering the instrument. People began sharing chords and tabs of songs that were popular at the time, which were eventually published as sheet music. Although the guitar eventually took over from the ukulele during the rock 'n' roll days, the portable and affordable uke gained popularity once again during the 90s. And this time, its popularity hasn't waned.

Ik heb deze Ukulele nu 3 weken en er al erg intensief mee gespeeld. Een aanrader, zeker in deze (midden)prijsklasse.
De Aquila snaren ontstemmen in het begin erg regelmatig, wat normaal is. Echter na ongeveer 1,5 week bleef deze ukulele al erg stabiel in de G-C-E-A stemming. Dit wijst op degelijke Stemmechanieken, snaren en brug.
In vergelijking met andere uku's (Kala, Oscar Schmidt, Ibanez, Fender, Stagg,...) moet de Ohana CK 22 zeker niet onder doen.
De klank is mooi en helder. Hij voelt degelijk in de hand en speelt prima. Ook de mineur-akkoorden klinken mooi, wat niet altijd het geval is op een ukulele.
+ een goeie service van Bax-shop!!
Waarom 'slechts' 4 sterren? Ik had het mahonie-achterblad iets dikker/zwaarder verwacht, wat de klank waarschijnlijk warmer zou maken. Voor de duidelijkheid : achterblad is degelijk genoeg en mooi afgewerkt.
PS : Zoals George Harrison zei : "Everyone I know who is into the ukulele is crackers," ..."you cant play it and not laugh!"
