General

Melodic percussive instruments come in all shapes and sizes and some look so similar, they often get mistakenly grouped under the same name. So, is this a xylophone, glockenspiel, marimba, or vibraphone? It's actually none of the above since this is a metallophone. Just like the xylophone, marimba, or vibraphone, this instrument is part of the idiophone family of tuned percussion. The sound of any idophone instrument is produced by its own vibrations, without the need for a resonance box or other amplification. Other great examples of idiophone instruments include a tuning fork, handpan, or steel drum.

The Suzuki SMCS-16 Soprano Diatonic Metallophone

The diatonic SMCS-16 metallophone delivers professional sound and has a soprano tonal range that stretches from C2 to A3. Suzuki have also included an extra Bb tone bar and a set of two extra F# tone bars as well as a pair of beaters. This instrument weighs 5kg, measures 670 x 260 x 250mm, and is the perfect addition to the music room of any primary or secondary school, as well as any music therapy practice, recording studio, or adventurous rehearsal room.
