The DBX 555 is a 5-band parametric equalizer for the modular 500 series system. It takes up two slots in your 500 rack, giving you access to extremely versatile tone controls. The 5 bands are identical, offering controls for gain, frequency and bandwidth. An on/off switch makes it simple to compare the signal with or without the effect. If you decide you don't want to use the effect, you can simply switch it off rather than having to turn all the settings to zero. Each band acts as a typical bell filter and can be adjusted between -15 dB and +12 dB for frequencies of 10 Hz - 20 Hz with a bandwidth of 0.03 to 2.0 octaves.
DBX 555: frequency multiplier switch
The DBX 555 also has a frequency multiplier switch per band that, in combination with the frequency switch, lets you adjust the frequency spectrum. The switch multiplies the set frequency by 0.1, 1.0 or 10. That means each band can cover the entire frequency spectrum, so you can use them as you wish; everything from subtle adjustments to extremely dramatic curves will be at your disposal. The DBX 555 is equipped with an LED meter for monitoring the signal, which can be adjusted using the master volume control.
500 series: a modular system
The biggest advantage of the 500 series system is that different components can be combined however you want. All of the products in the 500 series are compatible with each other. That means you can assemble your rack using only the components you need, depending on the situation. It also means you won't have to shell out any extra cash for additional expensive power adapters. Of course, you can put together your rack for each situation using only the components you need from your collection of equipment.
