Would you like for your nylon-string guitar to have the articulation and sparkle of a steel-string, without sacrificing warmth? The Thomastik-Infeld KR116 string set does exactly that. These unique strings from the Classic S series by the Austrian string maker have a tone and feel that is in between those of traditional steel and nylon strings. Their tension can be compared to a classical guitar's hard tension set. As these strings are thinner, the Thomastik KR116 string set makes it easier to transition from an electric/steel-string guitar to a classical/Spanish guitar.

Thomastik KR-116 Rope Core

Contrary to the KF110 of the same series, Thomastik-Infeld's KR116 Classic S strings have a woven nylon core and steel strands. This so-called Rope Core gives you the characteristic nylon-string sound with extra long sustain and articulation. The three bass strings have a flatwound winding of silver-plated copper, while the three rhythm strings have nylon tape windings. The tapewound construction makes the string a bit thicker than a traditional steel guitar string, so that it feels more like a string of a nylon-string guitar.

Ball ends

The strings from Thomastik's Classic S series have ball ends, which means you don't have to tie them to the bridge of your classical guitar. Moreover, the ball ends allow you to use these strings on other instruments, including smaller folk guitars and parlor guitars as well as classic instruments such as a 6-string lute. You can tell that these are high-end guitar strings from their finish, long lifespan, as well as just by listening to and feeling them. The ends have a felt winding that protects the spots where the strings touch your guitar.
