Looking for a steel-string acoustic guitar? You've come to the right place! Bax Music offers an exceptionally wide range of acoustic guitars; from beginner guitars to high-end models, all built by various brands, featuring different woods and different specifications.

What's an Acoustic Guitar?

Acoustic guitars can be recognised by their appearance. Popular shapes include the dreadnought and the OM (orchestra) and, unlike the nylon-stringed classical guitar, acoustic guitars are always equipped with steel strings, making them a great choice for both plectrum and finger-style playing techniques. Some steel-string acoustic guitars also have what's called a cutaway to provide easy access to the highest frets. You can use the search filters on this page to specify the body type and features you’re looking for.

12-String Acoustic Guitars

One spin-off of the classic acoustic guitar is the 12-string acoustic guitar. Twelve-string models are essentially six-string guitars equipped with double the amount of tuners to support six pairs of strings, where the second string in the lowest four pairs is tuned up by an octave while the two highest-pitched strings are doubled with a string tuned to the same pitch. As such, 12-string acoustic guitars usually have a slightly wider neck to improve the playability. Among others, all-time greats like Lead Belly and David Gilmour were already popularising the rich sound of the 12-string guitar in styles like folk, blues and rock back in the sixties.

Nashville Acoustic Guitars

Unlike the 12-string, the Nashville guitar isn't a different guitar but a guitar with a special tuning. That said, there's a link with the 12-string guitar here, since a 'Nashville guitar' is nothing but a standard acoustic six-string tuned like a 12-string, meaning the first four strings are tuned an octave higher to get a unique sound.

Buying a Good Acoustic Guitar

While it's ultimately up to you to decide on the best acoustic guitar for you, rest assured that there will be model that suits your needs. If you're not sure what you need yet, you can read our Acoustic Guitar Buyer's Guide for more information and answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about acoustic guitars.

Country Guitars

Acoustic guitars are one of the cornerstones of country music. One of the unique guitar techniques stems from country and bluegrass scenes where guitarists use finger and thumb picks. Want to give it a try? Check out our range of plectrums.

Frequently Asked Questions About Acoustic Guitars

Should I pick a classical guitar or an acoustic guitar?

Whether you'll end up grabbing an acoustic guitar or a classical guitar depends on your preferences. What's worth knowing here is that, when you’re just starting out, the nylon strings of classical guitars are easier to play than the steel strings of acoustic guitars. If you're still on the fence, we recommend checking out our Classical Guitars Versus Acoustic Guitars blog.

Which acoustic guitar should I buy?

That depends. What do you like in terms of sound and size? And what's your budget? Since there are so many guitars to choose from, there's basically no such thing as the 'best' guitar. Either way, a little guidance never hurts, so don't forget to check out our Acoustic Guitar Buyer's Guide for more help.

How much does an acoustic guitar cost?

You can easily pick up a decent acoustic guitar for less than £100. Connoisseurs, on the other hand, may also be comfortable spending several thousands on a more exclusive model. At Bax Music, there's a guitar for every budget.

Which acoustic guitar strings do I need?

As always, the best acoustic guitar strings for your guitar depends on your preferences. Some guitarists prefer heavier strings, while others like the feel of light or extra-light strings. Since they're easier to play, light strings are recommended for beginners and young players. Find more useful tips in our Acoustic Guitar Strings Buyer's Guide!
