No wonder they came up with the EVH 5150III 15W LBX, a compact, lunchbox-sized amp head to be reckoned with. Thanks to seven 12AX7 preamp tubes and two EL84 power amp tubes, this amplifier head offers enough gain to blow your audience off of their feet.
The EVH 5150III 15W LBX: a bit of a bigmouth
If you're after a clean sound with lots of headroom, this two-channel all-tube gain champion isn't for you. You can, however, use it to produce delectable crunchy rhythms and super-tight screaming leads. The first channel delivers the famous Eddie Van Halen 'Blue' Crunch, while the second provides you with the 'Red' Full Burn, an overdrive that will make your eardrums pop. That's right, this little 5150 tyke has a bit of a mouth on it. A Variac power switch allows you to tone down the power, so you can hook the amp head up to a cabinet and enjoy its all-tube prowess in your living room.

Hij is wel erg luid voor een 15-watt versterker. Zelfs op de 3,75-watt stand kwam ik goed mee met hardere muziekstijlen.

De amp is zeker geschikt voor Rock en Metal, clean krijg je er niet uit. Daarvoor kan je beter de LBX 2 kopen.
Deze amp heeft eigenlijk de blue (crunch) en red (gain) channel van zijn grote 100 watt broer.
De amp heeft een heel lekkere scheur en blijft goed helder en duidelijk.
Ook op hoog volume blijft het geluid super en wordt niet modderig.
De amp is zeer stevig gebouwd (metal case) en ziet er ook fantastisch uit!
Ik heb hem gespeeld over een 1960 Marshall 4x12 en was echt verbaasd van de sound.
De EQ op 12 uur leverde al een heel goede klank op, de amp is simpel te bedienen en klinkt gewoon goed out of the box.
Voor optredens met PA is deze zeker geschikt, voor repetities (of optredens zonder PA) is deze net niet luid genoeg voor mij.
(maar dat kan ook aan onze drummer en bassist liggen...)
Eens het volume voorbij de 4 wordt de amp niet meer luider, maar begint de eindtrap oversturing.
Ik heb hem gewisseld met de 50 watt versie, de sound was perfect enkel het volume was net iets te weinig dus.
De ruil met de 50 watt versie verliep zonder problemen bij BAX.
Gewoon terug gestuurd als retour en een ruil gevraagd. Nog geen week later was de nieuwe amp bij mij thuis!

Alles wat je van een Tube-amp moet verwachten, prachtig geluid voor de (Heavy) Metal fans, en voor een lunchbox model kan hij extreem hard. Ik gebruik de 5150 nu al bijna 2 maanden en ik ben nogsteeds erg tevreden ermee, de 15w amp is voor een gig zeker goed genoeg, ik gebruik hem samen met een Mesa Boogie Recto standard 4x12 en hij hoeft niet harder dan volume 3 en gain 4 om blijvend letsel aan te richten (Wees dus erg voorzichtig, blaas je oren er niet af!)
Het enige nadeel is dat je bij de high-gain tube amps een Noise gate hard nodig hebt, zonder noisegate gaat de gitaar heel snel piepen door de feedback dus zou ik het aanraden om er een Mooer Noise killer bij te kopen, ben je gelijk van de feedback af.
