The ART USBMix4 is a versatile 4-channel mixer and audio interface in one. It's perfect for podcasters, songwriters, movie makers, gamers and others. One of the things that makes it fairly unique is the fact that it has headset (microphone and headphone) connectors in addition to XLR/TRS jack combo connectors. As its name suggests, the USBMix4 has a USB port that can be connected to a computer. The inputs on the mixer can be sent to the computer in a number of configurations and you can also send audio from your computer to the outputs on the ART USBMix4.

Wrote the following about ART USBMix4 4-channel mixer and audio interface

Bij de zoektocht naar een geschikte ' personal mixer' voor opnemen van band repetities viel mijn oog op de ART USBMix4. Deze heeft de mogelijkheid om de microfoonkanalen 'dry' naar de USB input te sturen, terwijl de koptelefoon de mix laat horen. Dat is tamelijk uniek. Meestal is de USB input hard wired met de main mix. Op dat ' dry' is nog wel wat af te dingen: in de handleiding staat letterlijk: 'not affected by the level knob adjustments'. Dat klopt niet: zowel level als pan beïnvloeden het signaal. Maar daar is mee te leven. Minder handig is dat de 'monitor mute' knop niet alleen het microfoon signaal uit de monitor mix dempt, maar ook uit de main mix. Om dit apparaatje te gebruiken voor het doel dat ik in gedachten had was een modificatie nodig zodat het analoge signaal 'record source' naar een externe connector geleid wordt (er was nog net ruimte voor een extra stereo 6.3mm chassisdeel:)). Het was namelijk de bedoeling om op een monitor mixer alle microfoonkanalen te mixen en dan terug te sturen naar alle personal mixers, zodat iedereen via de eigen koptelefoon het totaalgeluid kan horen. En zonder de delay die onvermijdelijk is als je dat via de PC met playthough doet (dat was kennelijk het idee van de ontwerpers van dit dingetje).
Verder is de microfooningang niet echt ruisarm te noemen, maar als de microfoon voldoende dicht bij instrument of mond wordt gehouden is dit geen bezwaar. Het apparaatje zit wel keurig in elkaar, in een bulletproof stalen kastje. Ook de voeding via USB is handig, dat scheelt weer een kabel (niet vergeten om een voeding op de USB hub aan te sluiten!).
Al met al handig dingetje voor niet al te veel geld, maar wat mij betreft niet helemaal 'af'.
