General

After Røde equipped their non-stereo Videomic Pro with a Rycote shock mount, they continued the tradition by including one with the Stereo Videomic Pro as well. This shock mount keeps handling noise to an absolute minimum. High-quality recording with your top-notch camera is totally realistic with this mic and shock mount combination. The mic has also received a few other updates in comparison to its predecessor, so with the release of this Stereo Videomic, last year's model is now officially obsolete.

Improvements

First and foremost, the mount itself has been completely revised. Normally, elastic bands are used in shock mount systems to suspend the microphone, but the bands can dry out and break. Røde's Rycote Lyre shock mount included with the Stereo Videomic is strong enough to ensure years of recording enjoyment. The mic itself has also been updated with two quieter capsules in an XY position so handling noise is kept to a minimum and the recording is as pure and neutral as possible. The cable is attached with kevlar.

Built-in preamp

Another improvement is the Stereo Videomic's built-in preamp. You won' t have to worry about whether your mic's signal is strong enough, this preamp produces an extra 20 dB gain to compensate. This means you can keep the volume low, which will prevent unwanted background noise from being captured. Lastly, it also features a high-pass filter that cuts off low frequencies at around 75 Hz. Nieuwe microfoon aangeschaft omdat de ophanging van de vorige beschadigd is door een zware val van ondergetekende met statief, camera en de Videomic (een oudere versie, gewijzigde cameramontage).
Reparatie van de voet bleek niet meer mogelijk, Onderdelen van de voet bleken niet meer verkrijgbaar.
De huidige ophanging lijkt mij beter, de oude ophanging liet wel eens te wensen over..
De oude mic zelf werkt nog als vanouds, helaas niet meer op een camera. .
Waarom ik na jarenlang gebruik een nieuw exemplaar heb aangeschaft mag duidelijk zijn.
De kwaliteit is perfect. Een absolute aanrader.
Ik verwacht ook met deze microfoon weer jarenlang opnamen te kunnen maken.

Sinds een paar weken de Rode Stereo Videomic Pro Rycote cameramicrofoon in gebruik voor het opnemen van klassieke en wereldmuziek concerten (versterkt en akoestisch).

Meestal in een zaal tot ca 100 toeschouwers. Afstand microfoon tot de musici is 2 tot 5 meter (frontaal) of uit het midden als aan één zijde een instrument (zoals een vleugel) met hoger volume staat. De Rode stereo neemt dit soort concerten goed op in een goede klankkleur / balans en voldoende breed beeld met een vleugje zaal akoestiek . De voorste rij van het publiek, wat in mijn geval op één lijn zit met de microfoon, is wel te horen bij hoesten of reactie op de artiesten maar alleen en vooral bij klassiek in stille momenten (de stereo microfoon staat in x/y opstelling binnen de capsule afdekking). Applaus is iets harder dan de gemiddelde opname sterkte maar slaat nooit dicht (duidelijk toch wel cardioide diagram).
De microfoon kan, zoals de fabrikant aangeeft, een orkest op volle sterkte op enige meters afstand opnemen zonder oversturen (maximale SPL: 134 dB). Dat was met mijn vorige camera microfoons in dezelfde opstelling niet mogelijk.

Hand geluiden als de microfoon op de camera zit zijn zeer minimaal aanwezig. De Rycote isolatie werkt inderdaad veel beter dan de voorgaande modellen.
De fabrikant geeft aan de +20 dB stand te gebruiken bij sommige camera types zodat het volume van de camera lager kan staan en dan minder ruis geeft. Dat kan maar let goed op want bij sommige cameras kan de ingangsversterker dat niveau niet aan en overstuurt. Mijn Nikon D750 op microfoon ingangsstand 8 en de Rode op +20 op een afstand van 3 meter van een vleugel (met klep uiteraard open richting microfoon) loopt vast in het hoog bij maximale aanslag. Stand 0 dB (midden stand) en Nikon op 14 levert een paar dB meer ruis maar overbelast de ingangsversterker dan niet.

De bouwkwaliteit van de Rode is goed. Het aansluitsnoertje is stevig en afgeschermd en voor trillingen ontlast tegenover het Rycote frame.

Als je kritisch kijkt dan zijn de schakelaartjes een beetje priegelig en lopen iets zwaar voor werken op locatie maar daarentegen verschuiven ze ook niet ongewild. De klem voor het vastdraaien op de camera is van plastic, metaal had mooier geweest. De 9 volt batterij is eenvoudig te verwisselen maar let wel op want het klepje is een los onderdeel en ook van licht plastic. De prijs / kwaliteit is verder prima.

Als je de microfoon los van de camera gebruikt neem dan een afgeschermd verlengsnoer van de beste kwaliteit en niet langer dan 3 meter en plak het snoer voor ontkoppeling aan je microfoon standaard.
