Ranging from the sweet and subtle to the crunching and overdriven and the raging and distorted, the sound of this powerhouse of a stompbox can be moulded to shape via a two-band EQ before being tightened up by the simple one-button noise gate. Want more gain? Engage the Pre and Post Boost and kick things up a notch.

The Ibanez PENTATONE Preamp: Deep-Diving Control

Flick the Bright switch to inject immediate clarity and dig deeper into the sound via the five-pot parametric equaliser section to set the frequencies before balancing everything out via the set of five boost and cut sliders. Besides the preamp bypass and post boost footswitches, a latched two-button footswitch like the Ibanez IFS2L (not included) can also be hooked up to toggle the five-band EQ and pre-boost.

Zonder twijfel de beste distortion die ik ooit gehad heb. Een loepzuivere klank, zelfs met gain volledig open. De boosts zijn zeer krachtig, alle regelingen zeer subtiel, en je kan er oneindig je geluid mee modificeren. Je haalt er zo de typische Pantera of Cannibal Corpse sound uit, zonder toonverlies. Ook de noise gate is stukken beter dan wat ik op mijn pedalboard had. Eigenlijk kan je je hele pedalchain vervangen door dit kleine monstertje! Een dikke aanrader als je lekker aggressief wilt scheuren!

Ibanez heeft zichzelf voorbij gestoken met dit pedaal. Stevig afgewerkt met een paar pluspunten. Heel veelzijdige effect met twee boosts (pre en post amp) , een EQ die wel wat aandacht vraagt. Mijn tip, speel iets in een loop en doe dan de EQ settings naar keuze. Zo kan je je concentreren op het geluid zonder afleiding van het spelen. De EQ is zodanig gevoelig dat het verschil tussen, mmh ja, nehh en wauw slechts een fractie is. Heel goed geprijsd en mooi afgewerkt. Machtig en veelzijdig effect pedaal. Minpunt: een perfecte noise gate, maar persoonlijk vind ik het jammer dat het enkel voor de Pentatone werkt. Of ik zie iets over het hoofd, dat kan ook. Maar toch de aankoop zeker waard.
