General

For decades, Kurzweil has been a brand with its roots in the vintage era. Not many synth models have been made - compared to other brands - but those that have been made have all gained a certain cult status. The K2000 from the 1990s has become a true household name in synth history. Now, many years down the calendar, we get to marvel at the K2061, a very comprehensive workstation, totally of its time. Everyone understands, the computer, with all its brute-force, is here to stay, so a serious workstation has to have something to impress. Well, guess what?

Features of the Kurzweil K2061

The K2061 has 256 voices, and that with multiple engines. For example, you choose the VAST engine (a Kurzweil concept) for your sample playback. But there is also an engine for 6-operator FM. There is a virtual analogue engine, and another tonewheel engine. That FM engine in particular is a huge plus, still the most elegant form of synthesis with a bottomless well of possibilities. Arpeggiators then, those are also plentiful, and when you put all your multitimbral parts to work (each with an arpeggiator), you really are listening to a comprehensive whole. Under the hood is 2GB of samples, with another 2GB for your own samples. So with the latter - and especially if you are a bit creative and can edit samples - you basically have an endless synth at your disposal.

Physical characteristics

As it should be in this day and age: a nice colour screen for all the machine's eye-candy. Faders then, obviously handy for the aforementioned organ engine, but is of course usable with other parameters as well. Aftertouch, always handy, and even a long touch strip. The back is uncluttered; two sets of outputs, one set of inputs, four connectors for separately available pedals, and the MIDI stuff. Sequencing is there too, of course, so handy for your own songs! Long story short: this really is a wonderful synth/workstation, for a price that could normally have been quite a bit higher.

Wrote the following about Kurzweil K2061 workstation

C'est ma première commande chez BAX MUSIC, et sans doute pas ma dernière...
Livraison dans un délai record suite à la commande, emballage très bien sécurisé et conditions de livraison optimales. Bref, c'est sérieux.
C'est mon 5e produit de chez Kurzweil. J'avais commencé avec deux expandeurs, puis un pc2, et...le PC3...un très bon compagnon. Depuis cinq ans, je suis passé chez Nord. Mais cette nouvelle génération de K m'a fait de l'oeil, et je me suis souvenu comme le son Kurzweil passe bien dans le mix, une part de technologie, mais aussi de magie...quelque chose d'assez inexplicable pour moi. Le kb3 par exemple n'est pas la meilleure des émulations d'orgue à roues phoniques, mais le kb3 dans un mix...ça le fait "grave" comme dirait ma petite fille. Et il en va ainsi de la plupart des sons Kurzweil. Alors dès que j'ai reçu ce K2061, je me suis empressé de retrouver ses Rhodes d'exception par exemple.
Je ne suis pas fan du clavier, trop léger à mon goût pour un soi-disant semi-lesté, mais je pourrais contrôler les pianos avec celui du Nord Stage, le TP9 du K pouvant convenir pour contrôler la section KB3 et les synthés.
Comme dit précédemment, on retrouve sur ce K 2061 tout ce qu'on peut aimer chez Kurzweil, il faut juste prendre le temps d'apprivoiser l'animal....et il deviendra lui aussi un très bon compagnon. Une valeur sûre, un rapport qualité-prix exceptionnel dans le panorama actuel des workstations.
Pour terminer, si tant est que cela soit possible quand je parle de Kurzweil, je ne saurais trop vous recommander d'aller écouter ce que propose Dave WEISER (Sound Designer), il connaît ces machines comme sa poche.

Tja... eindelijk! Een 61 toetsensynthesizer van Kurzweil (na 15 jaar ofzo). Er zijn ook nooit rackversies meer te vinden. De vormgeving is prachtig, hij is niet te zwaar kwa gewicht, klein (98 cm breed) en alles wat je in een moderne synthesizer nodig hebt zit erin. Ik ben een echte kurzweil fanaat (al sinds 1992 ofzo) en deze nieuwe versie heeft eigenlijk een hele hoop dingen erin zitten die verstokte gebruikers vaak zelf al hadden opgelost.

Ben je een VAST gebruiker dan kom je hier echt aan je trekken. Alle functies zitten erin , de geluiden zijn super en de feel van de toetsen (met aftertouch) geeft. Eindelijk audio-in (die je weer langs de sublieme effectsectie kan routen) , de ribbon zit ingebouwd en met 256 voices polyfonie, KB3 organs en de mogelijkheid om alle DX7 sounds in te lezen en die dan weer te combineren met andere geluiden geeft een heel compleet gevoel.

Alle geluiden die ik zelf gemaakt heb in de laatste 35 jaar, kan ik nog steeds gebruiken en doorzetten en tweaken om te voldoen aan de nieuwe standaarden.

Dat is misschien wel de belangrijkste reden dat ik zo blij ben. Een nieuwe machine voor oude concepten.

Ik heb begrepen dat ie nogal moeilijk verkrijgbaar is. Ik heb m gelukkig al (net als de PC3K7) als 1 van de eersten in Nederland, en dat mag ook wel, ik ben een echte fan :-)

Thanks BAX, eerlijk is eerlijk, ik was sceptisch want vaak worden bestellingen niet uitgeleverd, maar de site zei : Op Voorraad en ik heb dus meteen geklikt.
