I'm a beginner saxophone player and father of two with an office job and found I was struggling at practicing my saxophone because I could mostly do it at night and on weekends.
I've tried a "cumbersome" and expensive sax mute first but that didn't work out to well for me.
I've decided to get the Aerophone AE-20 then to try to boost a bit my work on scales, arpeggios and melodies and so far it's serving me well. After dinner I can consistently get not 1 to 2 hours of practice in my living room without disturbing anyone. Then when I can I pick my saxophone and I can focus on my tone production and embouchure without without thinking too much about which note to push next in an arpeggio or a scale. After a couple of days I got used to the Aerophone different key feel and sensitivity and I can say I enjoy practicing on it. The main downside of it is that if you're running it on batteries you have to take them out to recharge them and also you cannot power it from the USB-C port but only via the provide DC adapter.
Overall I'm satisfied with it and hopefully I will start to use it in more "artistic" ways once I'll be a more proficient player.

Als hobbyist eerst met blokfluit en daarna gitaar bezig geweest. Nu toch weer terug naar een blaas instrument. Zocht iets waar je ook lekker om 11uur ‘s avonds nog onbekommerd op kan spelen. Of gewoon in de tuin ;). En kwam zodoende bij de wind synthesizers uit. De blaas techniek werkt natuurlijk iets anders dan de blokfluit. Je bouwt vooral druk op, op het mondstuk. In plaats van door het instrument heen te blazen. En met een ‘bite’ sensor heb je ook net iets meer mogelijkheden om wat expressie aan de tonen te geven.
De AE-20 is afgeleid van een saxofoon. En dat merk je aan de knoppen en de algehele layout van het instrument. Knoppen zijn voor diverse instrumenten in te stellen. Wel beetje raar dat je bij een niet bekende toets combinatie gewoon nog de voorgaande toon blijft horen. Van mij had het verder een stuk lichter en compacter gemogen. Iets wat ze bij de Travel Sax wel voor elkaar krijgen. Maar vergeleken met een sax zal het vast wel handzaam zijn. Dat het op losse batterijen werkt is zowel een plus als minpunt. Niet helemaal de compactste oplossing, maar je hoeft niet bang te zijn dat over een aantal jaar de accu slecht wordt. En je kunt ze snel omwisselen als ze leeg zijn.
Er zit een rijke database van geluiden bij. Is wel even zoeken wat wanneer bij je stemming past. Maar grote kans dat er wel iets tussen zit.
Al met al een leuk instrument met veel mogelijkheden, waar ik vast nog veel blaasplezier aan zal hebben.
