Roland have added the S-1 Tweak Synth to the ever-growing AIRA Compact Series, serving up another space-saving synth that offers authentic Roland-grade sound. Unlike the T-8 and J-6, the S-1 isn't a recreation of any existing synthesizer, but is powered by the ACB engine which is able to simulate the performance of various Roland-made chips and motherboards in great detail.

The S-1 can be described as a 4-voice subtractive synthesizer equipped with multiple oscillators per voice. That said, it takes things beyond good-old sawtooth and square waves, allowing you to 'draw up' your own oscillator, which technically results in infinite sound-shaping potential. What this little synth produces,....is Beyond Amazing.
I love the tilting Gyro effects (Fwd, Back, L & R) it's a clever touch.
It's a hobby 4me & literally a painkiller which keeps my mind
busy, With happiness and joy being the only side effects.
I'm blown away what is packed into this little rectangular box,
which is one of my favourite synthesizers. I can put it in my
wheelchairs pocket and keep myself busy anyway and have fun at the same time.
I am nearly 6 decades new (I say new because my mind still feels new)
And I am still learning and I love it. Because of my disabilities and health I can't work anymore,
So this little synthesiser is literally my medicine. There is no better medicine than music and laughter.

Great little synth. Amazing what they can fit in for the price. Really lovely sounds and to play around with but takes some menu diving. I'm sat here now like a man of a certain age with a coffee and the manual trying to work out how it all works! I'm a YouTube video would be better.

Did a fair bit of research and decided this was the sort of synth I'm looking for in terms of features and price. It's a brilliantly designed bit of kit and very inspiring. Easy to spend an hour or two just experimenting and noodling about with it and it's a great way to get into synthesis, too. Haven't tried to link it up with anything yet. Highly recommended.

Leuk dingetje, kan er toffe geluiden uitkrijgen voor zo’n klein apparaat. Erg leuk om mee te nemen op reis. Ik heb m in combinatie met de Roland t-8 wat n mooie combo is.
Toch vind ik dat er weinig pre-loopjes/geluiden opzitten (16) en vindt de arpeggio modes ook best beperkt. Maar toch voor zo’n klein apparaat net n kleine prijs best grote blij ;)

Door deze ervaring is op termijn de volgende stap een rijkere klankproductie zoals bijvoorbeeld de Polyend GrooveBox.
