The Aquila 185C Ambra 800 Series is a set of three treble strings (G-B-E) for classical or historical guitars. These strings are made from gut-coloured Super Nylgut: a modern synthetic material developed to approximate the sound and feel of historical gut strings. Whereas guitarists used to play almost exclusively on gut, this Ambra 800 set offers a comparable natural brightness, presence and distinct timbre, but with the reliability of contemporary materials. Ideal for those seeking that authentic top-end sound without the drawbacks of real gut.

Historic sound, modern stability

Aquila bases the Ambra 800 trebles on the typical 19th-century string construction. The diameters have been chosen as the average of historical measurements, and the surface has been carefully ‘rectified’, inspired by traditional gut finishing techniques. The result is a direct, brilliant response with clear articulation, comparable to the tonal qualities that many players also appreciate in PVDF/carbon strings. At the same time, you benefit from a short break-in period and stable intonation. This 185C is also the synthetic counterpart to the Gut & Silk 800 set (Aquila 73C).

Tension, tuning and application

This is a low-tension set for E tuning (EADgbe). This ensures a comfortable playing experience, a supple feel under the fingers and natural dynamics, suitable for both classical and historically inspired instruments. The set is intended as a treble set (i.e. no bass strings), allowing you to combine it with your favourite bass strings or use it for specific repertoire and tonal purposes.
