General

An ambitious model, the Ortega Family Series Pro RCE133-7 seven-string electro-acoustic classical guitar has all the tonal warmth and fullness of a solid spruce soundboard combined with a sapele body. It's also been given an extra bass string, bringing the standard tuning down to B, E, A, D, G, B and E and extending the range to support more complex classical pieces or fingerstyle guitar techniques. Meanwhile, the fret-hand is treated to the playing comfort of an American nato neck with a walnut fretboard and the reach of deep and elegant cutaway.

A Custom Setup

Unplugged, the RCE133-7 already has a lush acoustic sound, but when jacked into an acoustic amplifier or PA, the integrated MagusPRO preamp takes over. This comprehensive system features a built-in tuner as well as a three-band EQ section and phase button, so the amplified sound can be moulded and shaped to your will. This model also boasts a two-way truss rod, meaning that the action of the neck can be raised or lowered as preferred to support a fully customised playing feel, and to finish, this far-reaching seven-string comes wrapped up in a deluxe gig bag complete with backpack straps and two accessory compartments.

Om te beginnen is ca. € 500,-- voor een 7 snarige gitaar met massief bovenblad en een piëzo element een hele goede deal.

Akoestisch heeft de gitaar een prima geluid. Vergeleken met mijn wat duurdere 7 snarige Salvador Cortez is het volume wat minder en de klank wat dunner, minder complex. Ik denk dat dat voor een groot deel te wijten is aan de vorm van de gitaar. De gitaar heeft een cutaway en ook de andere schouder heeft iets minder volume, daardoor kan het bovenblad aan die kant van het klankgat minder vibreren. Voordeel van de cutaway is natuurlijk wel dat de hogere posities beter bereikbaar zijn dan bij de gebruikelijke klassieke gitaarvorm. Maar sowieso voor de prijs een prima geluid.

Het geluid van het piëzo element is verbazend goed. Warm en vol. Vrij veel bas, maar dat valt goed af te regelen met de toonregeling. Nadeel is wel, dat de hoge e-snaar iets minder hard opgepikt wordt, dan de rest van de snaren. Dat moet ik compenseren door iets harder aan te slaan. Ik heb een proefopname gemaakt met de de uitgang van de gitaar rechtstreeks in mijn interface, zodat ik alleen de piëzo hoor en dat klonk erg goed. Ik heb de gitaar eigenlijk gekocht voor live optredens, maar ik denk dat ze in de studio ook nog wel van pas gaat komen.

Qua uiterlijk (het oog wil ook wat) een mooie gitaar, oogt modern, mooie matte lak en goed afgewerkt.

Kortom: erg goed elektrisch geluid met als minpuntje wel dat de hoge e-snaar iets minder hard opgepikt wordt. En een prima akoestisch geluid, wel een iets dunner geluid dan een gitaar met een traditionele vorm klankkast.
