The Hohner HOM21 Penta Harp is a diatonic harmonica, so you hear different notes when you blow or suck the air through it. Most harmonicas of that type have the so-called Richter tuning, where the three notes of the major chord are at the top (blowing) and the four others at the bottom (sucking). This makes it easy to play chords by playing several holes at once, but the scales require more technique and practice. With the Penta Harp, Hohner brings a totally new concept to the table: this harmonica was given a pentatonic tuning, with the notes of the pentatonic minor scale thus. These follow each other neatly, so that you hear the full scale when you successively blow and suck in all holes separately.

Perfect for beginners

The innovative tuning of this Penta Harp has the biggest advantage that you don't need bend notes or overblows (special blowing techniques to play different notes) to be able to play the blues and pentatonic scale, simply playing separate notes is enough to solo. Playing octaves is also very easy, as the same notes are next to each other in octave. This new and intuitive way of playing makes this Penta Harp perfect for musicians - e.g. guitarists or pianists - who want to add the harmonica as a second instrument to complement their sound.
