General

The Roland HP704 is a combination of clean design and the meticulous sound and playability you would expect of a higher price range. Specially developed by Roland, the piano sounds are generated by the SuperNATURAL modulator and controlled by the PHA-50 keyboard and three pedals to produce all of the expression, dynamics and speed of an acoustic upright piano. When compared to its smaller sibling, the HP702, the Roland HP704 comes with a more refined keyboard and broader sound system.

The Roland HP704: Powerful Speaker System

The sound of the HP704 is delivered by four speakers divided into two pairs and that use Roland's very own Acoustic Projection. This reproduces the lower and higher registers with the same tonality and character as that of an acoustic piano. The headphone output operates with the same system so that, whether silently rehearsing with headphones or performing using the speaker system, you get the same faithful level of acoustic emulation.

Bluetooth Pairing and Other Connections

You can play along with music by simply pairing a Bluetooth device with the HP704 or connecting via the aux-input and playing back using the built-in speakers. The Bluetooth connection is also useful when following online tutorials but also when using the various apps available directly from Roland including Piano Every Day. If you want a little more volume than the on board speakers will allow, a line output is fitted for direct connection to a mixer or amplifier. To make recordings or playback MIDI and audio files, just slot your USB stick into the USB Memory port or connect directly to your computer and use the HP704 as a MIDI controller for virtual instruments.

For the Parents

In designing the HP704, Roland have spared a lot of thought for the parents whose children will be moulding their craft on this instrument. As such, the volume of both the headphone output and speakers on this digital piano can be set at a specific limit while the opening and closing of the piano lid has been cleverly connected to the on/off switch. Also, the TwinPiano function splits the keyboard into two sounds to make practicing exercises a little more fun while specially developed Roland apps enable study, not just by teaching demo songs, but also an understanding of how to read sheet music as the songs are played.

Wrote the following about Roland HP704 Digital Piano (Light Oak)

J'ai acheté ce piano Roland pour remplacer mon précédent piano numérique âgé de trois ans.
Mon objectif était d'avoir :
- Un clavier bois et toucher ivoire avec le comportement d'un piano classique
- Un pupitre au même niveau que celui d'un piano classique pour travailler correctement la lecture de partitions
- Un son riche et enveloppant
- Une entrée son filaire permettant d'utiliser le système audio pour connecter une boite à rythme

J'ai donc choisit la marque Roland pour l'entrée filaire et ce modèle pour les autres critères.

Je suis pleinement satisfait de mon achat, le clavier est très agréable, le meuble très bien conçus et les commandes ergonomiques.
De plus, pour l'apprentissage, ce piano offre d'autres caractéristiques importantes :
- Un cahier de partitions est fournis avec les pièces enregistrées sur le piano
- Des pièces d'entrainement et des tonalités (sons) permettent de lire et chanter le solfège en jouant au piano.
- Des modèles de métronome permettent de s'entrainer sur les croches, les triplets, les notes pointées etc...
- L'enregistreur MIDI fonctionne sur 3 voix : accompagnement, main gauche, main droite. On peux enregistrer autant de morceaux que le permet la mémoire (ou une clé USB)
- Le lecteur de clé USB permet la lecture et l'enregistrement de fichier MIDI (3 voix) ou audio (Waw)

Avec ce piano, je peux écouter les pièces que je travaille en exportant mes partitions MuseScore au format Midi sur une clé USB (la gestion par dossiers est possible). Je peux en changer le tempo et choisir une seule main ou les 2. Bref c'est génial pour travailler en autodidacte.

- Enfin la connexion MIDI est possible avec un câble USB, et elle fonctionne correctement. seul bémol, la documentation MIDI n'est pas fournie et n'est pas disponible même en la demandant au support Roland. J'ai donc du passer en revue avec un logiciel de trace MIDI sur mon PC les quelques 300 sons de l'appareil pour déterminer leur codes MSB, LSB et PC.

Un très bon achat au final.
