General
The Yamaha Arius YDP-1428 Black Walnut digital piano is the darkest model offered in the YD-142 digital piano series. Sitting behind this inspiring dark model makes you feel like a true concert pianist. The sound you hear when you play was actually recorded from the Yamaha CF3S, a beautiful concert grand piano with a depth of 274 cm, and a price tag that ranges in the tens of thousands. Through the most modern technology applied to the YDP-14dB, you can have this expensive sound in your home for only a fraction of the cost. The Graded Hammer Touch also gives the YDP-124B the feeling of real, heavy piano keys, so the keystroke length can be customized to your own style and strength.
Extras
There's almost always a little something extra in the bargain with most modern digital pianos, and the YDP-142B is no exception! You get to choose from ten different voices: three grands, two electrics, harpsichord, vibraphone, two organs, and strings. You can also use two sounds simultaneously, for example the popular soft music combination "piano with strings." The YDP-142B has recording capabilities so you can record what you play. In duo mode, two people can play together, and each player can control his own (transposed) side of the piano (each player has his own middle C). To complete the experience, the concert setting creates adjustable reverberation, producing acoustics such as you would experience in a large concert hall.
Digital pianos: are they really that great?
Yes! And the further technology advances, the bigger and more resounding that "yes" becomes. Of course decades ago matters were different--lower quality, less expression. Luckily these days a digital piano is an excellent alternative to a real piano. The advantages are numerous: a digital piano is less expensive, easier to transport (especially up the stairs), and a headphone jack so you won't bother your neighbours. Above all, a digital piano with the sound of a grand concert piano fits easily in your home. A real piano, of course, is and will remain irreplaceable, but a digital model definitely wins in practicality and affordability.
