General
Yamaha's P-121 is a compact, black digital piano with 73 graded hammer keys that are heavier lower down and lighter higher up making it feel just like you're playing an acoustic piano. It has 24 highly-realistic sounds on board including samples from a Yamaha CF III grand piano and there are 20 accompaniment styles that cover genres like rock, pop, jazz and latin. The P-121 is easy to use and the Smart Pianist app (only for iOS) gives you additional possibilities. A base and a pedal unit are available for purchase separately.
The P-121's Speaker system
The P-121 features a 2-way speaker system that directs sound upwards as well as downwards so that the result you experience is similar to playing an acoustic piano. There's a special table EQ function that ensures an optimal sound when you're playing on a flat surface too. You can listen to the sound via headphones as well, of course, and thanks to the stereophonic optimiser, you'll enjoy outstanding sound that way too. There's even a second headphone jack as well as an auxiliary output.
Other Features
Functions like Layer-mode allow you to combine two different sounds, while split lets you play one sound with your left hand and another with your right hand. You can add easily effects like reverb, damper resonance, sound boost and Intelligent Acoustic Control to sounds too. For those taking lessons, the Dual mode which splits the keyboard into two equal parts is really handy.

At first I was sceptical about the yamahas as I'd heard there were better actions available with other brands. Plus the plastic key surface, on paper, didn't appeal to me.
I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised by this little piano! The keys feel great, both action and touch, and the sound is brilliant. I mainly use piano and electric piano sounds and the ones on this suit me perfectly. The acoustic pianos are amazing and there are good Rhodes and Wurly sounds available (plus a DX7 if that's your thing).
The customer service at Bax has met all my expectations and I will certainly be using them again.
Would definitely recommend!

Weliswaar slechts 73 toetsen, maar dat went snel. Hij kan dwars in mijn auto op de achterbank.
Hij gaat naar alle gigs mee. Mijn Yamaha P-255 staat nu thuis te verstoffen.
Ik snap niet dat zoiets kan voor een prijs onder de 500 euro.
Sustainpedaal bijkopen is wel aan te raden, bijv. Fazley SP-1 van 16,95

Ik ben er superblij mee. Ik heb mijn gitaren ondertussen niet meer aangeraakt. De piano klinkt zeer realistisch. De speakers kunnen meer dan genoeg volume aan. Ook de andere sound effecten zijn prima en live goed bruikbaar. Wel is het aan te raden om een extra sustain pedaal aan te schaffen, want degene die is meegeleverd heeft geen tussenstand. Verder ben ik erg tevreden!
