General
The '70s were the glory days for hard rock. Even today, many bands and artists are trying to recapture that magical sound. Finally, there's a pedal that can do it: the ENGL Retro. That's right, the German amplifier manufacturer has decided to branch out into stomp box territory with the help of their friends at the Russian Yerasov company. That's why, design-wise, the Retro is very similar to its Russian cousin. However, while the outside hasn't been changed too drastically, the inner workings have received some upgrades.
Let your hair down
Engaging this effects pedals will take you right back to the days of long-haired hard rockers. It offers anything from a nice and subtle sound to a great, dirty overdrive. Besides the volume and distortion knobs, there's also a 2-band equalizer (bass, treble), but you can have the most fun with the 'bright' switch and the 'low-cut' knob. The former allows you to add a touch of brightness to your sound, while the latter makes for a great lead effect. Of course, the effect will always respond accurately to your playing, in order to keep the sound as dynamic as possible.
